For this project, my intention was to learn more about the placement of objects, choosing what color to add to the landscape and incorporating some simplistic architecture. In the past, I tended to lean more toward orderly chaos in environment or landscape design. This time, I drew inspiration from modern architectural ideas seen in some middle-class homes.
For example, the steps leading up to the front door are rounded, shaped like semi-circles. This creates a feeling of safety and elegance. If I had used a square staircase instead, it wouldn’t evoke the same sense of refinement. The rounded shape also naturally draws the viewer’s eye toward the front of the house.
Originally, I placed yellow roses beside the front door, but they contrasted too harshly with the red Japanese maple trees. I ended up switching them to an orange-red rose, which is visually less jarring and more harmonious. This choice gently guides the viewer’s gaze down to the steps—almost like softly placing them on a cloud rather than a spiky ball.
