I had been learning about Mediterranean style gardens and the types of plant species commonly used in this type of landscape design. I saw that a friend of mine had recently had their yard redone in this style which peaked my interest in diving further to learn about it. I immediately borrowed a book to read on Mediterranean landscapes. I also looked into the types of architecture and design elements typically associated with this aesthetic. Plant species that require low amounts of water are usually chosen for this style of gardening, with the exception of citrus trees. I wanted to create a rock pathway using more brown and red tones. For the lighting, I chose a sunset setting to enhance the red, brown, and orange shades of the rock pathway.

The plant species I picked for this: Valencia orange tree, Jasminum officinale, Agave, Lavandula x intermedia 'Provence' (Lavender), Olive trees, Lily of the Nile, Italian cypress tree, Miscanthus sinensis, Phormium tenax, succulents, and Pennisetum alopecuroides (fountain grass).
